This was drawn with graphite pencils and a white colored pencil on tonal paper. I looked at many of Leonardo Da Vinci's portrait drawings as reference for this piece, and I used the idea of white colored pencil as hightlights as I referenced from Sasha Ushkevich's work. I believe if I were to do this piece again I would give more shading to the top of the head (just enough to be able to differentiate the head from the background of the tonal paper). I was actually pretty proud of this one as I have never drawn a realistic portrait of an older person before, and I liked being able to place the white pencil as highlights.
