I was really inspired by the "Spiderwick Chronicles" for this art project! I have always been really fascinated by mythological creatures. I always grew up being told about them and I always wanted to learn more about them and how they came to be, which is also another thing that inspired this! Another thing is I have always been obsessed with Ireland, and it was because it seemed like the land where all mythical creatures came to be (in the realm of fairies and gnomes!), and it has always had that "old" charm to it in my head. The last thing was because I am finally taking a trip to Ireland- the one place I have always dreamed of going- as my senior graduation trip! I really want to show my children or nieces/nephews this book when they are a bit older, just to tell them that these are the creatures I saw there. I really want them to have this kind of hope that I always had growing up because being obsessed with fairies and mythical creatures was one of the best things I can remember from my childhood. This project will be ongoing until I reach the last page, and I have plans to go into both Scottish and English folklore as well eventually! So far this has been really fun to research and I enjoy being able to make this kind of fieldguide a reality.
