Unit 3

Master Artist: George Stubbs

Current Artist: Kathrin Guenther

For this unit, I decided to do the up close animal. I used oil pastels for the large and detailed drawing, and I used graphite pencils for the animal study below it. Both George Stubbs and Kathrin Guenther draw animal portraits (more so Kathrin Guenther). I used them as master and current artists last year when I did this project but as I really enjoy both of their art (ESPECIALLY the level of detail put into each piece for both artists), I saw that it fit for what I was trying to do this time around as well. I am extremely happy with how the animal study came out, as I believe it captures the general personality of the tanuki species.  However, I was a bit disappointed with how I had wrapped up the close up, I feel like I didn't capture enough detail as I had wanted to. If I were to do this again I think I would go in with some more light colors to add more depth to the darker areas in the fur.
